Penalties For Employing Children-A Utah Based Call Center To Pay $500k

A well known call center firm in Utah that is operating across 7 states, has been turned down in the eyes of law. The charge of child law violation has led the company to pay the civil penalties of $500,000. According to reports, the Utah-based call center firm has been charged to pay the highest penalty ever against any company operating in the current market.

 

 

The United States Department of Labor cited that the Orem based-Western Wats Center Inc. has been penalized for hiring children to work in the company and allowing them to work longer hours against the law. The regulators found out that the company was employing young children to make the cold calls to the adults.

 

Overall, the company was mentioned for violations linking 1,482 minors who were found to be below 16.The violation date cited to 2007 and 2008 at the call centers in Kansas, South Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, Nebraska, Arizona and Idaho.

 

On behalf of the company a statement has been released to indicate that officials have implemented the full-time remediation procedure that serves to be fully operational. The statement also added that the violations were found were found to be exclusively technical in character.

 

Western Wats has characterized the entire violations as a mere oversight. According to the company sources, it has been said that the complaint has been settled amicably. It is also said that most of the violations were extremely technical. Furthermore, the company is currently working in the direction to improve upon the internal controls.
